Wayang Klithik


Wayang klithik is one of the Indonesian traditional art that was developed in Java. The show which told various folk stories and accompanied by Javanese gamelan and singer was favored among the Javanese society as a means of entertainment. This rare early 20th century Wayang puppet depicts a dutch lady that was likely used in the “Babad Tanah Jawi” (folklore about the Java Island history).

This carved wooden wayang klithik is decorated with polychrome color and gilt, and has arms made from leather. The creation was through a fairly complicated and time consuming process. The Fineness of this wayang puppet reflects the craftsmen’s precision and high sense of art..
