Decanter Gouda

De Distel, Amsterdam the Netherlands, c 1895-1925

”De Distel” Pottery factory was founded in 1895 by Jacobus Moses Lob in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Renowned Dutch pottery artists  such as Bert Nienhuis, Willem van Norden, T.A.C. Colenbrander, Th. Nieuwenhuis and C.A. Lion Cachet were asked to join the factory to develop a new line of pottery. Despite the relatively short existence  of this company ( it was sold to Goedewaagen in 1922) , Jacobus Moses Lob and his artists managed to give an artistic touch to the “Distel” potteries. This particular decanter set is one of the fine example of the “Distel” pottery. Painted in phoenix motif with a green jade color handle, it represents the artist’s interpretation of the far eastern culture.
